Compliance has changed. So have we.

NIS2 raises the cybersecurity bar for organisations providing important and essential services across the EU. We help Irish organisations understand whether they are in scope, identify gaps and build a practical roadmap toward compliance and cyber resilience.

What is NIS2?

Cybersecurity is now a business governance issue.

NIS2 is the EU's second Network and Information Systems Directive. It establishes a common cybersecurity framework intended to strengthen resilience across critical and important sectors.

For organisations in scope, the focus goes beyond buying security technology. NIS2 addresses risk management, governance, incident handling, business continuity, supply-chain security, vulnerability management, cyber hygiene, training, authentication and the effectiveness of security measures.

Irish context: NIS2 should be approached as a structured resilience programme, with scope and obligations checked against current Irish NCSC guidance and the legislation implementing the Directive in Ireland.
Who is NIS2 for?

It reaches far beyond traditional critical infrastructure.

Scope depends on factors including the service provided, sector, organisation size and specific statutory rules. Medium and large entities in covered sectors are a key focus, while certain entity types can be captured regardless of size.

Transport
Banking & financial infrastructure
Healthcare
Drinking & waste water
Digital infrastructure
ICT service management
Public administration

Do not assume you are out of scope because you are an SME. Special rules and supply-chain requirements can still matter. A proper scope assessment should be the first step.

Why should you act?

Compliance is only part of the business case.

01

Reduce operational risk

Lower the likelihood and business impact of ransomware, outages, compromised accounts and supplier-related incidents.

02

Meet governance obligations

Give boards and management a defensible framework for cybersecurity oversight, accountability and decision-making.

03

Build trust & competitive advantage

Demonstrate to clients, partners and regulators that your organisation takes cyber resilience seriously.

NIS2 Requirements

Eight control areas that define your obligations.

NIS2 requires organisations to implement appropriate and proportionate technical, operational and organisational measures across these areas.

Governance & accountability

Management ownership, policies and measurable oversight.

Cyber risk management

Identify critical assets, risks, vulnerabilities and appropriate safeguards.

Incident response

Prepare to detect, manage, escalate and report significant incidents.

Business continuity

Backups, disaster recovery and crisis management that can actually be tested.

Supply-chain security

Assess security risks created by suppliers and service providers.

Access & authentication

Strong access control, MFA, encryption and appropriate authentication.

Security awareness

Cyber hygiene and training for staff and management.

Continuous improvement

Assess whether controls work and improve them as risks change.
